Nihon Kohden acquires Labnova and establishes a production company in Italy to produce hematology reagents

FIRENZE, ITALY and TOKYO, JAPAN - Nihon Kohden Corporation has acquired a mid-sized European hematology reagent manufacturer, Labnova S.r.l. in Italy, on May 19, 2006 and started operations under a new company. The new company, Nihon Kohden Firenze S.r.l., will produce and supply Nihon Kohden original reagents for the Company's line of Celltac series hematology analyzers.
Labnova has strong name recognition in hematology reagents. Labnova has previously supplied reagents that are compatible with Nihon Kohden products.
For now, Nihon Kohden Firenze will continue the reagent manufacturing operations of Labnova and supply the current Labnova reagents while modifying the production facility to start supplying Nihon Kohden original reagents later this year.
Nihon Kohden's international hematology analyzer business is growing and the new subsidiary will provide a stable supply of reagents to overseas markets with more direct control over quality.
